Any consumer will agree with the fact that any non-necessity product is only as good as it packaging. It is true, packaging plays a very important role in the way a product is perceived, how it sells and the message that it sends across to its end users. Multimedia is no different. Whatever the kind of multimedia, whether it is audio cassettes, VHS tapes, DVDs or CDs packaging is very important. So what role does packaging actually play?
Protection comes first
The most basic requirement of any multimedia packaging is to protect the contents. Any packing that is designed needs to be able to keep out unwanted elements like dust and moisture etc. It also needs to protect the media from damage during transportation etc. so that the product reaches its destination without any possible physical harm.
Boosting sales
While protection is a primary need of media packaging, it also needs to help the product sell. Attractive packaging will obviously attract more eyes that packaging that is boring and drab. When media is packed in an attractive manner it stands out from other similar products on the shelf. The fact that it is spotted first can boost its sales immensely. When it comes to the outer appearance of the packaging, everything can make a difference, the colours that you choose, the images, the style of packaging etc.
Packaging can act as security devices
Some packaging techniques can even determine how likely a multimedia disc or tape is to be stolen. This feature becomes very necessary especially if the media is being placed in a large store. This way store owners do not have to worry about customers shoplifting as the protective covering will sound an alarm if not removed before exiting the store.
Creative packaging makes a statement
Most people probably think that there are just so many ways in which you can pack a disc or a cassette. The truth is far from this. In fact a little out of the box thinking where media packaging is concerned goes a long way. People like things that are different and stand out. They are a novelty and this will improve sales. Creative media packaging also makes a strong statement that the people behind it do things differently and most customers welcome a breath of fresh air. Sometimes the fact that it is different is the reason that people buy it in the first place.
